Hospice UK comments on NHSE’s Actions for End of Life Care

Nov 12, 2014
Responding to Actions for End of Life Care 2014 to 2016 published today, which sets out NHS England’s (NHSE's) commitment to end of life care for adults and children, Jonathan Ellis, Director of Policy and Advocacy at Hospice UK, said:

“This document provides a clear articulation of NHS England’s commitment to improve end of life care and pinpoints key areas where action is needed. We welcome its recognition that much more needs to be done to ensure that everyone approaching the end of life has access to high quality care.

“Charities, such as hospices, are both major funders and partners in driving improvements to end of life and can help maximise the impact of available resources, especially in the current climate when these are very stretched.

“Achieving improvements on end of life care also depends on taking action on issues such as the continuing poor quality of commissioning of hospice and palliative care, something our research highlighted earlier this year.

“We look forward to working with NHS England and our other partners to develop system-wide ambitions for radically improving end of life care. Collaboration will be key to achieving our collective vision that living and dying well is at the heart of future care.”
