Barbara has been involved with hospices since 1981 and completed the Masters in Hospice Leadership in 2010. She is in the final year of a PhD in Palliative Care at Lancaster University; her thesis explores the stories of community hospice volunteers who are visiting patients who are at the end of life.

Barbara and her team at St Nicholas Hospice Care are currently undertaking a project to create hospice services that will meet the needs of their community. This process is about developing services that are led by people’s experiences, by using this ‘Listen Learn Adapt’ method we hope to design sustainable services that can respond to people’s needs now and in the future.
