She also appears BBC2’s The Daily Politics Show, Radio 4’s Saturday Live, Classic FM and LBC Radio. Joan is best known to many television viewers as the presenter of the long-running BBC series, Heart of the Matter.

She has also presented a number of Panorama programmes for BBC1, including Our Dirty Nation, Old, Drunk and Disorderly?, in which she investigated the hidden problem of alcohol abuse in older people, and The Generation Game, in which she explored the challenges ahead in caring for an ageing population.

Joan also presented a recent BBC Radio 4 documentary on Dementia, Suppose I Lose It. For many years she presented the Radio 3 series Belief.

She was appointed by the government as The Voice of Older People in 2008 and stepped down from the role in 2010. In November 2010 she was made a working peer in the House of Lords.
