Gemma Martin

Special Events and Projects Manager, Department of Income Generation

Could you tell us about the range of work you undertake?

My role is really varied. When I started at Hospice UK, I was tasked with creating a portfolio of special events and leading on the delivery of cultivation events to support the Income Generation strategy.

This requires me to work closely with other across the organisation to develop ideas and ensure that the events are successfully managed from conception through to delivery. Events can range from a gala dinner at The Savoy for hundreds of people, to small briefings at the House of Lords, and even internal awareness raising events for Hospice UK staff.

During my time at Hospice UK my role has developed to take on additional projects to support the Income Generation team. This includes project managing the introduction of the organisation’s first ever online shop and developing products to support this, such as a brand new Hospice UK cookbook!

As part of the work you have done, what new skills have you learned and opportunities have you had?

So many -  when I started the job I didn’t think I would be writing copy and editing pictures to create a cookbook, setting up an online shop and going to trade fairs to buy products to sell!

The great thing about working in a smaller charity is that you have so many opportunities to get involved with different things.

What does hospice care mean to you?
