Job description

Job Purpose:

To support the delivery of the annual Events and Community team objectives. Lead on the planning and implementation of Hospice led events and initiatives. Build and nurture relationships with supporters, including community groups and schools, to generate and grow our income and raise awareness.

 

Responsibility Areas:

Planning and research

  • To proactively seek support and engage with individuals and community groups to support the work of St Michael’s Hospice.
  • To research and identify new events and initiatives, including producing event plans
  • To successfully deliver a range of events and campaigns to attract a variety of supporters, within budgets and to meet targets.
  • Support the events portfolio through effective planning and communication with all stakeholders.
  • Analyse and produce progress reports to feedback to managers at agreed intervals, alongside making recommendations for remedial activities where necessary.

 

Fundraising/Operational delivery

  • To work with passion, determination and creativity to spot opportunities and raise as much income as possible for St Michael’s Hospice, to meet or exceed fundraising targets.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, well-organised and high quality Hospice events, within deadlines and budget.
  • Ensure individuals and groups feel valued and understand how their support makes a difference, to maximise their contribution to the charity.
  • Support and promote other St Michael’s Hospice fundraising and marketing activities, including legacy and in-memory promotions, lottery membership and regular gifts to the hospice.

 

Representation and key account management

  • Deliver tours of the hospice or prepare and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences in order to secure financial and non-financial support, such as volunteering or gifts in kinds.
  • Liaise with local groups, schools and individuals undertaking their own fundraising in aid of St Michael’s Hospice to ensure they are fully supported and encouraged to maximise donations to the hospice.
  • Nurture and cultivate key supporters, to develop long-term relationships and repeat support.
  • Attend or arrange for representation to attend cheque presentations and supporter events to express gratitude and help raise the profile of the hospice.
  • To act as an ambassador for St Michael’s Hospice raising awareness of its work and enhancing its reputation through exemplary behaviour, conduct and team working.
  • To develop effective working relationships across the organisation.
  • Contribute to organisational effectiveness through positive team-working, adhering to and modelling the St Michael’s Hospice values within the team and externally to supporters.
  • Recruit and manage Events and Community Fundraising Volunteers to help with fundraising events and campaigns.

 

Regulation

  • Be diligent at all times to ensure that supporters are fully aware of their legal obligations, including charity law (Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice), Health and Safety legislation and St Michael’s Hospice brand guidelines and fundraising policies.
  • Ensure that all data is entered accurately on to the CRM database, in accordance with St Michael’s Hospice guidelines and standards, and complies with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) legislation and current best practice.
  • Adhere to the charity’s financial systems to include cash handling and basic accounting
  • To work with other team members to ensure necessary administration is completed in a timely and accurate manner to support community and challenge activity.

 

Person Specification

  1. Specialist Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience planning and delivering a variety of events
  • Experience working with an income budget circa £200,000
  • Experience working with community groups and schools
  • Experience of delivering talks to a variety of audiences
  • Knowledge of fundraising practices, evidenced by working or personal practice
  • A familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or a similar CRM Database
