Helping hospices to launch new projects

The dedication of Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank employees has helped hospices to reach more people in need of support at the end of life.

CYB staff supported Roxburghe House with a new car

Our partnership provided a new wheelchair accessible vehicle for Macmillan Day Care and Roxburghe House at Royal Victoria Hospital.

A local fundraising team led by Jackie Campbell at Clydesdale Bank in Dundee raised a magnificent £22,955. This money was match-funded by an additional 50% by Clydesdale Bank through its partnership with Hospice UK and this generous donation supported the purchase of a new wheelchair accessible car.

"Tommy", as the Torneo has been christened, has opened up the day-centre to patients who would otherwise have had great difficulty and expense to make their own way. Tommy is driven in a daily basis by its specially trained volunteer drivers.

One patient who benefits is a 71 year old man with motor neurone disease who is confined to an electric wheelchair. The car has made coming to the day centre possible, and the brilliant volunteer drivers who understand his needs reduce the anxiety involved in travelling for both the patient and his wife.

The Torneo is so spacious that other patients can also be picked up along the way, allowing them to attend clinics and to go on home visits and social or recreational outings.
