Dr Rachel Clarke
Before training as a doctor, Rachel worked as a television journalist, making current affairs documentaries.
She now combines working as a palliative medicine speciality doctor at Sobell House Hospice in Oxford with writing and campaigning for a properly-funded NHS. During last year’s junior doctor dispute, she put her journalistic background to good use.
She was the forefront of the campaign against the government, argued in print and on screen that imposing a contract – not to mention trying to deliver a seven-day NHS on five-day funding - would irrevocably damage the NHS. Her book, Your Life in My Hands, published this summer, captures what life is really like for staff and patients on an overstretched NHS frontline.
