Responding to the new contract for general practice announced today, Jonathan Ellis, Director of Advocacy & Change at Hospice UK, speaking on behalf of the End of Life Care Coalition said:
“As a coalition of charities committed to improving end of life care, we welcome the plans to improve end of life care contained in the new GP contract.
"Primary care services, and GPs in particular, are on the front line in supporting people who are approaching the end of life. The new indicators for end of life care, and the focus on continuous quality improvement, are welcome steps towards making the Government’s end of life care commitments a reality.
"Delivering improvements in end of life care will depend on having a well-resourced and skilled primary and community care workforce. We look forward to seeing the detailed plans for the health and care workforce that will support these critical objectives.”
