Job description

The Events Fundraising Officer will be responsible for organising and promoting challenge and other fundraising events to ensure maximum participation. The role will include the planning, promotion and analysis of challenge and other events, working within budget, along with the effective stewardship of participants. 


St Joseph’s Hospice was founded in 1905 by the Religious Sisters of Charity who retain an interest in the oversight of the Hospice. The Hospice seeks to be an outstanding provider of palliative and end of life care. Each employee is critical to delivering and maintain those standards in accordance with the Hospice’s core values.


Discretion to act
The post holder has day to day responsibility for delivering all tasks detailed in the job description with minimal supervision and as directed by Public Fundraising Manager. The post holder will also work co-operatively with the wider fundraising team to ensure joined up working. 


Scale and impact
Management Responsibility: The post holder does not have line management responsibility but will be expected to manage volunteers where necessary. 
Budget: The post holder does not have budget responsibility but will be expected to deliver £200K+ in income from challenge events and manage an expenditure budget of approx. £40K 

Key accountabilities;
1. Challenge Events – Third Party 
To manage all elements of promoting, managing and maximising income from third party challenge events (such as London Marathon, Hackney Half Marathon, Shoreditch 10K and sky dives) including;
1.1 Manage relationships with third party providers and secure places and charity packages as appropriate
1.2 Take responsibility for researching and selecting appropriate third party events for St Joseph’s Hospice to get involved with and review on an annual basis 
1.3 Take responsibility for filling places in third party events 
1.4 Take responsibility for stewardship to all event participants, encouraging them to fundraise successfully and building motivation
1.5 Manage third party events to ensure smooth operations including cheer points, meet and greet areas and pre event welcome evenings where necessary
1.6 Take responsibility for sourcing and organising volunteers to attend cheer points and meet and greet event areas where necessary and act as volunteer coordinator 
1.7 To manage volunteers for third party challenges and act as Volunteer Manager on day of event – providing proper briefings, task descriptions etc. 

2. Hospice Own Events 
2.1. Take responsibility for the planning, promotion and management of bespoke events, including the flagship Great East End Walk.
2.2. Take responsibility for ensuring all events are planned and delivered safely and within fundraising code of practice 
2.3. Take responsibility for the promotion and marketing of St Joseph’s Hospice events to maximise event participation and income, working alongside the Fundraising Communications & Marketing Officer
2.4. Deliver a well-researched and diverse programme of events to cater for different audiences and capabilities 
2.5. Take responsibility for researching and developing new events to trial and review on an annual basis 
2.6. Work with Corporate Engagement Manager & other stakeholders to create sponsorship packages 
2.7. Take responsibility for the stewardship of all event participants, ensuring target sponsorship goals are met 
2.8. Take responsibility for sourcing and organising event volunteers to marshal, cheer or help with meet and greet as appropriate. 
2.9. To manage volunteers for bespoke challenges and act as Volunteer Manager on day of event – providing proper briefings, task descriptions etc 

3. Independent Fundraising 
3.1 Identify potential and appropriate third party events for supporters to sign up for in support of St Joseph’s Hospice and ensure these are promoted/available on appropriate channels 
3.2 Take responsibility for supporting individuals organising their own fundraising events or taking part in a third party event

4. Other 
4.1 Create and manage supporter records on thankQ CRM database with relevant event and fundraising information 
4.2 Take responsibility for briefing documents to Supporter Care team of how to manage event participants 
4.3 Manage events and fundraising budget to ensure all events are delivered to budget 
4.4 Take responsibility for reviewing all events, including supporter questionnaires and full analysis and evaluation and making recommendations for future events
4.5 Ensure that all fundraising complies with fundraising policy, GDPR and industry best practice
4.6 Join relevant online event fundraising special interest groups

5. Personal Development
5.1 Identify your own learning and development needs in order to meet the key requirements of the post.
5.2 Take responsibility for linking your own development needs with the Hospice appraisal and objective setting process.
5.3 Take responsibility for your own continuing development by undertaking specific areas of work/projects to develop new skill
5.4 Take responsibility for your own professional development, including keeping up-to-date with relevant professional and other developments in events fundraising, at local and national levels
5.5 Engage in supervision to support your personal and professional development.
