We’re delighted to welcome three new Trustees to the Board of Hospice UK.
Please join us in welcoming Alice Ainsworth, Lorraine Chapman and Kathleen Fadden who bring an extraordinary breadth of experience across governance, legal, digital and health and social care leadership.
Together, they bring invaluable expertise that will help guide our charity at a pivotal moment in our mission to fight for fair and equal access to hospice care, as our members across the UK face unprecedented funding pressures.
Alice Ainsworth
Alice is a Digital Consultant with 20 years' experience delivering large-scale change programmes in the NHS, social care, and local government. A former senior Civil Servant at the Department of Health and Social Care, she led the Digitising Social Care programme, the national initiative to embed digital social care records and shared data standards across adult social care in England.
"I've seen first-hand the extraordinary difference that hospice care makes to people at the end of life and their families, so I'm thrilled to be joining the Hospice UK Board. I'm looking forward to bringing my experience in digital and data across government, the NHS, and social care to support Hospice UK's strategy and to help strengthen digital and data capabilities across the wider hospice sector."
Lorraine Chapman
Lorraine is Chair of the Board of Trustees at The Kirkwood, a specialist hospice for adults across the community of Kirklees (Huddersfield and surrounding areas).
As an experienced healthcare professional with over 20 years delivering NHS leadership roles, Lorraine draws on the insights and knowledge built up through her operational and strategic responsibilities to support the hospice movement. Lorraine also Chairs the Hospice Boards Council for Hospice UK.
“I am delighted to commence in role as a Trustee at Hospice UK, and excited to have the opportunity to expand my remit to champion the hospice sector on both a local and national level. I look forward to making a valuable contribution at Hospice UK, at a time when supported end-of-life care is rightly becoming widely recognised as a priority.”
Kathleen Fadden
Kathleen began her career as a Scientist before qualifying as a Lawyer. She worked in the healthcare/life sciences sector in both private legal practice and for the pharmaceutical industry in both the UK and Switzerland for 30 years advising across a broad range of regulatory, compliance and commercial matters.
Kathleen is currently also a Trustee of 3 charities in the North of England, including Tynedale Hospice at Home where she chairs the Governance Committee.
"I am delighted to be joining the Board of Hospice UK, especially at such a pivotal and interesting time for the hospice movement. During my time as a Trustee at Tynedale Hospice at Home, I have seen the very positive impact that hospice care services provide to the community. I hope my legal, compliance and governance skills will enable me to make a positive contribution at Hospice UK.”
Toby Porter, Chief Executive of Hospice UK said
“I am delighted to welcome our three new trustees – Alice, Lorraine and Kathleen – who together bring huge wisdom, experience and expertise to our board. I look forward to working closely together to build on our critical work for members and seize every opportunity to promote and protect hospice care in this period of political change.
On behalf of everyone at Hospice UK, I would also like to extend our deep gratitude to both Ros Keeton and Mike Miller whose terms as Trustees came to an end in March 2026. We sincerely thank them for their dedication and contribution to Hospice UK and the wider hospice sector during this time.”
