Hospices across the UK are having to make difficult decisions. St Cuthbert's Hospice is one of them.

Text

In January 2025, St Cuthbert’s Hospice was forced to make the very difficult decision to reduce its workforce and services after rising costs and increasing financial pressures made our position unsustainable. These pressures included the cost of living crisis, National Insurance increases and a growing reliance on charitable donations to fund our core services.

By taking this action, they were able to safeguard inpatient beds from closure. However, the loss of our specialist dementia service, adult bereavement support and community outreach, alongside a 50% reduction in our Living Well Centre provision, has had a significant and negative impact on people requiring palliative and end of life care in our community.
