The palliative care workforce. We know that workforce recruitment and retention are our biggest challenges in end of life care.

We also know that the pandemic has had a huge impact of staff wellbeing. But we do know that the people that deliver palliative and end of life care are our sector’s greatest asset – and that by working together, they have supported the sector through its most challenging time?

How can we ensure that our workforce remains our biggest strength? How better must we attract and support clinical and non-clinical staff into the future, and as the shape of the sector changes?

In this session, they discussed this challenge together and learnt from each other about the problems they’ve faced and solutions they’ve devised in the past two years. They also provided feedback on the Hospice UK Workforce Dataset survey focus on future workforce needs and share an example of developing an integrated team approach across an ICS. Ensure the workforce is equipped for the future through education.

This was presented at the Hospice UK National Conference 2021 - ''A New World - Changing the landscape in end of life care''.
