Building on the Best

Building on the best was a 2-year partnership programme (March 2016 - March 2018) between Hospice UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and in Scotland the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care aimed to enhance existing care in hospital settings across the UK by embedding compassion and choice for everybody at the end of life.

Through 'Building on the Best', the programme provided support, knowledge and leadership required so that everyone in hospital approaching end of life receives high quality care that respects their wishes and needs, and those of their loved ones.

We worked in England by building on the existing end of life care programmes through the experience and influence of Hospice UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and other partners in each of the nations.

In England we worked together with NHS England and NHS Improvement and ten Acute Trusts.

Each of the 10 Trusts have developed posters to share their learning. Click on the links below to watch their 'elevator pitches' at the Improving EOLC conference, or to download their posters (note: .pdf files).
