We’re excited to share the next chapter of our partnership with Dignity.

In 2025, we supported Dignity to launch Caring with Confidence, a CPD-accredited programme of training and discussion sessions delivered by Dignity colleagues in care homes.

Together, we set out to build emotional resilience within care settings, giving care teams practical tools and training when encountering grief at work that make a real difference to both staff wellbeing and resident care at the end of life.

Building Caring with Confidence

Text

Working in care means being close to people’s lives, and their losses. That can be rewarding, but also emotionally demanding. Caring with Confidence aimed to support care teams to:

  • better understand grief and the different ways it can affect staff, residents and families
  • explore what compassionate leadership looks like and how it can help teams feel supported and connected when encountering death and dying
  • find practical ways to support staff, residents and families after someone dies by reflect on what is working well and where support could be strengthened.
  • Know how to spot early signs of burnout and compassion fatigue and ways for teams to look out for each other and themselves.

Thanks to the hard work and commitment of Dignity colleagues, 123 sessions have now been delivered, from Fife to Portsmouth.

"The workshop was very good. I think it really gave us a deeper understanding of loss and the emotions that come with it. I liked how it also focused on staff members and how we can spot if a colleague may be struggling. As part of a team, it is nice to be able to be there for one another."

The next chapter

Text

Now, we’re building on what we’ve achieved together.

Over the next 18 months, we will work with Dignity to  expand Caring with Confidence to reach more care homes and community settings.

The next phase of the partnership will also help create more open conversations about death, dying and grief, while exploring the role of funeral care and funeral directors in supporting people through some of the most difficult times in their lives.

This will include Community Conversations, helping more people talk openly about death and grief, further training sessions for care staff and an AfterCare framework highlighting best practice in how funeral homes best support families before and beyond the funeral.

"I think the workshop was brilliant. [She] was great, and you could see how much she cared about the work she does. She made everyone feel they were in a safe space and able to open up. We'd love to have [her] back."

Looking ahead

Text

By supporting the people who provide such important care, we can help make end-of-life experiences better for everyone. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together and excited about what comes next.

We’ll be sharing updates throughout the year, including new resources and opportunities to get involved. If you’d like to know more about the partnership we’d love to hear from you.
