Job description

Basic Function

The post holder will be responsible for the development and management of the Hospice’s individual giving programmes and activities, including appeals, general donations, online donations, payroll giving, regular giving, lottery and Christmas cards to increase income from these sources.  The role will explore and test new income streams and channels for Individual Giving to increase income and supporter engagement.

Organisational context

St Joseph’s Hospice was founded in 1905 by the Religious Sisters of Charity who retain an interest in the oversight of the Hospice through their representation on the Board of Trustees.  The Hospice is working to achieve Vision 2024, which has five key strands: patients, enterprise, estates, funding and fundraising, and human resources.  The Hospice seeks to be an outstanding provider of palliative and end of life care.  Each employee is critical to delivering and maintain those standards in accordance with the Hospice’s core values.

Discretion to act

The post holder has day-to-day responsibility for delivering all tasks detailed in the job description with minimal supervision and as directed by the Supporter Engagement Manager.  The post holder will also work co-operatively with the wider fundraising team to ensure joined up working.

Scale and impact

Management Responsibility: The post holder does not have line management responsibility but will be expected to manage volunteers where necessary.

Budget: The post holder does not have budget responsibility but will be expected to deliver £400k+ in income from cash, regular and lottery donations and manage activities within agreed expenditure budget (approx. 100K)

 

Key accountabilities

  Cash Giving

  • Take responsibility for the recruitment and welcoming of new donors to St Joseph’s Hospice through testing acquisition channels and messaging.

  • Take responsibility for delivering warm appeals programme of four appeals per year and create a campaign schedule for each one.  

  • Take responsibility for all briefing documents related to Cash Campaigns including Creative Brief, Data Brief, Fulfilment Brief and Supporter Care brief.

  • Manage relationships with third party providers including creative agencies and print houses to deliver materials

  • Take responsibility for devising and implementing effective donor journeys from acquisition to reactivation

  • Take responsibility for monitoring results of all campaigns and providing end of campaign review and analysis including recommendations

  • Lead on our Christmas cards campaign each year including selecting designs, overseeing design work and marketing and implementing fulfillment.

  • Provide content and copy for website, social media and cash appeals

  • Manage all cash giving activities are delivered to budget and meet agreed targets

 

 Regular Giving   

  • Take responsibility for the recruitment and welcoming of new regular givers to St Joseph’s Hospice through testing acquisition products, channels and messaging.
  • Take responsibility for developing and implementing effective stewardship of regular givers including welcome process and reactivation process

  • Take responsibility for managing relationships with external suppliers to fulfil regular giving promotional activities including Telemarketing and Face to Face agencies  

  • Take responsibility for providing regular reporting on regular giving including new donors and attrition

  • Take responsibility for ensuring all regular giving activities are delivered to budget and meet agreed targets

  • Take responsibility for the day to day management of the Hospice’s partnership with Local Hospice Lottery

  • Be responsible for overseeing all marketing and communications delivered by Local Hospice Lottery

  • Be responsible for compiling reporting from Local Hospice Lottery

  • Be responsible for regular reviews with Local Hospice Lottery to ensure activities are to agreed targets

 

General

  • Input into the strategic direction of Individual Giving and budget planning to grow income from individual supporters
  • Input into the overall marketing and communications plan, working with Marketing & Communications Officer to ensure activities delivered on time and with maximum promotion

  • Work with wider team to develop donor journeys for individual supporters with a view to engagement, retention and maximising income

  • Provide monthly updates on campaign activity, monitoring agreed KPIs and provide commentary and reforecasts for month end process

  • Be responsible for dealing with supporter enquiries, answering phone and monitoring inboxes
