Job description

St Margaret’s Hospice has been at the heart of the Somerset community for over forty years, providing compassionate care and support for individuals, their families and carers who are facing a life-limiting illness right across the county. Our services are consistently rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and our skilled and compassionate workforce of over 350 colleagues and over 900 volunteers are key to our success. We have an income of £14.5m made up largely by donations from our generous and supportive community; trading across our 31 retail units; and funding from our NHS partners. We have a track record of innovation, from pioneering hospice community care in the 1980s, investing in new system wide models of delivery, to our current investment in the latest digital tools such as AI. The changing health landscape provides a great opportunity for us to help shape the ambitions for end of life care in Somerset.

We are now seeking to appoint a new Clinical Director. Reporting to our Chief Executive as a member of our leadership team, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading all aspects of our health and support services, ensuring that safe, high quality and compassionate person/patient centred care is at the heart of everything we do

  • Providing vision and leadership to achieve our strategic business plans as well as offering expert clinical advice and recommendations to the CEO and Trustees

  • Nurturing effective strategic partnerships and proactive relationships with key community and sector stakeholders to ensure a seamless continuum of care for patients and their families, and address end of life disparities for people in Somerset

  • Working closely with our People & OD team to create the best working and learning environments for clinical staff and encouraging a culture of learning and innovation

  • Representing the Hospice in public settings including the media, advocating our healthcare and support services, and working with colleagues to generate support and funding.

  • Playing a full role in the executive leadership of St Margaret’s

We are seeking an inspirational clinician who is looking for an executive role with true leadership and opportunity for impact. You could be a nurse, a doctor, a social worker, a physiotherapist or another related health or professional with current registration and evidence of CPD. You will be a visible leader, modelling our values by being patient-centred, respectful, brave, informed and driven, self-aware, and compassionate. A background in end-of-life and/or community care would be advantageous, but not essential. Above all, you will need a passion for the difference our staff and services make to people’s lives.

In return, we offer a clinical leadership role with huge variety in a busy, complex, operational setting at the heart of a community. Unlike some larger healthcare systems, you will be able to lead, innovate, make change, and quickly see the tangible impact of your work on our patients and community.

Salary: Up to £90,000 plus opportunity to remain in NHS pension scheme (if applicable).

Closing Date: 11pm on Tuesday 27th June.

This job expires on 27th June 2023
