Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Kirkwood as a Specialist Palliative Care Team Manager. The post holder will carry continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of The Kirkwood’s Specialist palliative care team, providing management and professional leadership of the nursing team.

The Unit Manager will also focus on patient and service user involvement to ensure services are inclusive and codesigned with patients, families and staff to ensure services meet the needs of patients across all communities in Kirklees. The current service comprises of 3 caseloads across the area of Kirklees. The postholder will be directly responsible for the management of the team of specialist palliative care community nurses, as well as the departments clinical budget and effective use of its resources. As part of the multi-disciplinary team the postholder will have regular support from our consultant led medical team.

The ideal candidate will be a first level registered nurse, with specialist palliative care knowledge gained through further education and experience, hold a supporting learners in practice (SLIP) or equivalent teaching qualification and assessing qualification and have a non-medical prescriber qualification or willingness to work towards it, with extensive experience of palliative care at NHS AfC band 6 or 7 or equivalent with experience of leading and managing a team, teaching and mentoring, recruitment and retention and effective resource management. 

The postholder should have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, be emotionally resilient, be committed to continuous professional development, hold a full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle for work purposes and both believe in and uphold The Kirkwood’s values in all their actions and endeavours.
