Charlie King, Director of External Affairs at Hospice UK says: “Today’s budget was a missed opportunity to provide much needed immediate support to hospices in the wake of the government’s wider commitments on palliative care.
“Hospices are on the brink. Many have already made valued staff redundant and 2 in 5 are planning cuts this year. We are pleased that the Government has committed to overhauling palliative and end of life care but many hospices can’t wait that long.
“Services are being reducedand people aren’t getting the care they need. The Government has said that hospices are vital to the 10-year health plan but if they do not protect these services, we will struggle to deliver on this vision.
"The Government must introduce our 4-point plan for fair hospice funding, so no one misses out on dignified and compassionate care at the end of their lives.”
