Hospice UK’s conference is our flagship event, welcoming everyone involved in hospice, palliative and end of life care for adults, children and young people. 

Our three-day conference provides a unique forum to explore and discuss current and forthcoming issues, and to discover new thinking. The conference is packed with stimulating plenary and parallel sessions, an inspiring poster exhibition, and opportunities to network with peers and meet major providers of services and products.

Spanning governance and leadership, community responses to dying, death and bereavement, along with care and support of people and their families, the conference combines high level strategic thinking, application into practice and learning from real world examples. 

If you have submitted an abstract to display a poster at conference or give a short talk about any aspect of your work, you may still find it useful to take a look at the Frequently Asked Questions which tell you more about the next steps and the timeline.

We were keen to receive abstracts from colleagues working in hospice, palliative and end of life care in the voluntary sector, NHS and other sectors and stakeholders e.g. care home sector, academia and across the full range of roles, including clinicians, educationalists, fundraisers, marketers, managers, social workers, trustees and volunteers.

We were  delighted to hear about work which will be completed this year or that is in progress; this may have included audit, quality improvement or service improvement initiatives, research or other in relation to changing the landscape in end of life care.

Please note that we do not accept work that has been presented or published elsewhere.

The deadline for submitting an abstract was 23:59 on Monday 16 May 2022. Note that there will be no extension to the closing date.

During the week beginning 11 July we will let you know whether your abstract has been accepted.

During the week beginning 11 July we will let you know whether your abstract has been accepted. Abstracts were submitted online using the Compleat Conference Company's website.

If you have submitted your abstract, you will not now be able to edit the content.

Please note that in submitting an abstract you and any other authors of the abstract agree to Hospice UK’s terms and conditions, and also to the terms and conditions of BMJ’s standard licence to publish for abstracts, as publisher of the selected abstracts within an online conference supplement of BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care.

To submit you will need to have visited the Compleat Conference Abstract Portal and should now have an account.

You can log back into your profile to view the status of your abstract submission.

You will have received an email confirming your abstract has been submitted for review. If you did not receive this confirmation, your submission may not have been successful in which case, please contact lisa@compleatconference.co.uk

Our mentorship scheme has now closed

This year we had exciting new mentoring opportunities to support those who are less familiar with writing abstracts. We are delighted that our National Conference attracts submissions from authors who are experienced in writing abstracts, through to those who are newer to the process.

To help those who are less experienced in writing for publication, we were grateful to our panel of volunteer mentors who sharred their knowledge and experience in writing abstracts and helped you to increase the chance of your work being accepted for presentation.

What was involved?

A mentor provided one-time feedback on the writing and format of an abstract. Mentors answered questions about the formal requirements of abstract writing or on points relating to clarity of writing, data presentation etc. Mentors did not advise on research methods or analysis, nor correct grammar or spelling. 

The mentor programme was anonymous and entirely independent of the formal abstract review and selection process.
