Hospice UK's Deliberative Events are structured gatherings for members of Hospice UK that facilitate the exploration of complex issues.

They enable participants to draw on expert support and explore some of the strategic issues facing organisations, challenge their own and others' assumptions, think creatively and explore new possibilities.

About deliberative events

Text

These are turbulent times for our sector and some hospices are under significant pressure. The scale, complexity and urgency of change can be difficult to navigate.

Deliberative events are immersive experiences with clear structures and frameworks, which aim to deepen individuals' understandings of key issues, expand relationships and networks, and produce new (and often radical) perspectives and ideas.

How deliberative events benefit you

Text

These events provide opportunities to step back and draw on expert facilitation to explore some strategic issues facing the sector and your organisation.

The events help you to explore key issues such as:

  • the strategic environment within which palliative and end of life care is delivered
  • the ways in which hospices can facilitate transformational change
  • the risks and benefits of collaborations, mergers and whole system integration
  • the approaches to leading change that you can utilise

You will acquire:

  • increased clarity about your strategic challenges and opportunities
  • new strategic approaches, ideas and options
  • a supportive peer network offering both support and challenge
  • renewed energy, focus and direction

This was one of the best three days deliberating I have spent in a long time. The opportunity to connect with progressive thinking peers in our sector, expertly facilitated by skilled and knowledgeable people was really refreshing.

I would highly recommend that other hospice CEOs invest their time in future deliberative events. I found much needed headspace to think more deeply on the strategic direction of both my hospice and the sector...benefitting from the wide range of viewpoints and experiences from colleagues from across the country.

Emily Carter, Chief Executive, Royal Trinity Hospice

The strength of hospice care lies in what we can achieve together, and that starts with understanding each other's world. I would strongly encourage every hospice CEO to attend - the sector needs us to be stronger together, and this is one of the most meaningful ways to start building that.

Kate Broadhurst, Chief Executive, Willen Hospice

The Deliberative was a great event for networking with CEOs in different parts of the country. We explored opportunities, radical options, the hospice offer and taking forward change in complex systems.
