Susan is a Mortgage Advisor at Mearns Cross and Glasgow Hub. She undertook a 25-mile walk to raise money, in memory of a friend.
How have you fundraised?
My friend and I had had a mutual friend who passed away and spent the last month in the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. We wanted to do something to raise funds for this great place and all the work they do.
We both enjoying walking and discovered the Kilt walk which is a walk from Glasgow Green to Balloch Country Park Loch Lomond (25 miles), in April time. We did a lot of training beforehand, and by doing this with someone else definitely encouraged us both to keep going.
It was a great atmosphere on the day with lots of volunteers and entertainments to keep everyone going, luckily the sun was shining too.
At the finish line it was a big party atmosphere and there was a great sense of achievement for a worthy cause.
I had a few blisters after but the pain went quickly, and also that first glass of prosecco tasted amazing!!
Would you recommend taking part in a walking challenge like this to your colleagues?
Yes. You definitely need someone to do this with in order to encourage each other to keep going.
