About this grant programme
Grants are available for capital improvement projects that will directly benefit patients and their families.
-
A total of £100,000 is available for this round of grants. We are looking to make grants of up to £10,000 per hospice.
-
The programme is primarily to support capital costs. It is important that the project should demonstrate a direct impact to patients and their families. There are several ways in which money from the grant could be used.
- LED lighting/boiler/heating improvements in patient rooms and community spaces - where people in need will benefit directly from the improvements.
- Electric Vehicle (EV) charging – if the vehicles are used predominantly to support people in need of transportation.
- Door improvements – to make the hospice more accessible and heating efficient/more comfortable for patients and families.
- Environmental friendly windows – to make the building more comfortable.
- Sensory gardens.
- Ensuring patients have an accessible outdoor space.
Eligibility, criteria and support
-
Any hospice that is a member of Hospice UK can apply for this grant, including NHS hospices. This covers the whole of the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. It includes children’s and adult hospices.
Only one application can be considered from each hospice.
Hospices that have been awarded a grant directly from the Screwfix Foundation within the past two years are not eligible to apply for this capital improvement grant.
The Screwfix Foundation likes to support projects where they are the major or sole funder. Therefore applications for work that forms part of a larger project are not eligible.
Please read the full criteria before applying.
-
Grant recipients are expected to share learning from the programme. This might include:
- submitting a written progress report
- sharing information about your work through our networks and communities of practice
- submitting an abstract for a poster or presentation at our National Conference.
-
You will receive ongoing support from our Grants team throughout the life of your project.
Hospice UK staff might visit your hospice to help evaluate progress, and can help facilitate discussions to solve any issues that might arise.
