Jo Fernandes

She originally pursued a career in acute surgical nursing but has now worked in palliative nursing for over 15 years and was recently appointed Nurse Consultant at the Hospice of St Francis, Berkhamsted.

She is passionate about how the skilled practice of nursing as both an art and science can create meaningful relationships with patients and colleagues.

Jo has a Masters in medical ethics and is particularly interested in the ethical complexities that face us in end of life care. She is very informed about the issues related to assisted dying, euthanasia and related questions and endeavours to make ethical dialogue and propositions, completely accessible for all levels of clinical and lay staff.

Jo also works as a volunteer for the supportive care bereavement team at St Francis where she runs a project using her horses to support children pre and post bereavement.
